  • If there is one thing that attracts attention to the great gastronomic festival known as the “Aplec del Caragol de Lleida” (The Snail Fest) (el Segrià – Lands of Lleida), it is the consumption of 12 tonnes of snails.

This is the quantity of gastropods normally consumed over the three days of the festival. A real banquet!

snails are the main ingredient in the meals eaten at the Aplec, which explains why their consumption increases so spectacularly in May. For the festival, snails are sent to Lleida from the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, from North Africa, South America and from anywhere and everywhere else in order to satisfy the appetites of the people taking part in the festival and its visitors. Within the fair complex, there is a special area where the general public can try different types of snails at special prices.

The Aplec del Caragol is held in the city of Lleida at the end of May and has been declared both a Festa d'Interès Turístic Nacional (Festival of National Tourist Interest in Spain) and a Festa Nacional d'Interès Tradicional (Traditional Festival of National Interest in Catalonia).

You are invited to the festival! Do you feel like coming?
